The policy segment on Transforming Asia-Pacific trade and transport agreements and other initiatives to future proof supply chain connectivity in Asia and the Pacific was organized as a side event during the seventy-eighth session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
Taking stock of the current situation in Asia and the Pacific region, this side event discussed the ways in which the existing and future trade and transport agreements can help to ensure greater resilience of supply chain connectivity during major disruptions by including and/or harmonizing model provisions on trade and transport operations during future crises. The event will presented some of the ongoing initiatives on enhancing the resilience of sustainable transport connectivity, including the proposal to establish of a Regional Centre for the Development of Transport Connectivity in North and Central Asia and the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Guidelines for Resilient and Sustainable International Road Freight Transport Connectivity in ASEAN.
The side event was organized by the Government of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the ESCAP Transport Division and Trade, Investment and Innovation Division and with the support of the United Nations Development Account Project “Transport and trade connectivity in the age of pandemics: Contactless, seamless and collaborative UN solutions”
